Professor Peter Sarris wins London Hellenic Prize

Cambridge historian scoops prestigious literary prize
Congratulations to Professor Peter Sarris, announced today as winner of this year's London Hellenic Prize for his acclaimed biography of the notorious Roman Emperor, Justinian.
The London Hellenic Prize, now in its 27th year, recognised ‘Justinian: Emperor, Soldier, Saint’ as the best original work published in English on a subject relating to, or inspired by, Hellenic civilisation, culture, history or literature. Each year, the Prize is awarded to a work of originality and excellence which appeals to the educated general reader.
‘Justinian: Emperor, Soldier, Saint’ (Basic Books, 2023) was selected by the adjudicating committee from 140 books submitted for consideration. The biography is already hailed as a Sunday Times, London Evening Standard, and BBC History Magazine ‘Book of the Year’. It was also shortlisted for the Runciman Award 2024 (Anglo Hellenic Society).
Sarris is Professor of Late Antique, Medieval and Byzantine Studies, and a fellow of Trinity College. He has published extensively on the history of the Early Middle Ages both East and West, and is a leading authority on the 'Plague of Justinian' and the 'Age of Justinian' more generally.
