Directions to the Faculty

By Train

There are frequent rail services from London (King's Cross and Liverpool Street stations). Journey times vary from 50 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes. Phone National Rail Enquiries for information about departure times on 08457 48 49 50 or visit the National Rail web site. Cambridge railway station is situated one mile from the town centre. It's a 30 minute walk from station to the History Faculty. There is a regular bus service into the town centre, and it's a 15 minute walk from there to the Faculty. There are usually plenty of taxis available at the station and in the town centre. Ask to be dropped off on West Road; follow the path into the Sidgwick Site and after 50 yards you will see the History Faculty building on your right.

By Bus or Coach

Drummer Street bus station is situated in Cambridge town centre. It's a 15 minute walk from the bus station to the History Faculty. There are usually plenty of taxis available at the bus station. Ask to be dropped off on West Road; follow the path into the Cambridge University Sidgwick Site and after 50 yards you will see the History Faculty building on your right. Within the Cambridge bus system the History Faculty is best reached by the Citi 4 bus. Although this does not run directly from the railway station, it does run from Brooklands Avenue, which is a short walk from the station.

From London Stansted

From London Heathrow

There is a direct bus or coach service to Cambridge. The journey time is about 2 hours. Visit the Airlinks website, or phone 01223 423900 for information. Alternatively, you can take the underground into central London (45-60 minutes) to King's Cross underground/railway station, and then take the train to Cambridge (50-70 minutes). From London Gatwick

There is a direct bus or coach service to Cambridge. The journey time is about 3 hours. Visit the Airlinks website or phone 01223 423900 for information.

From London Luton

There is a direct bus or coach service to Cambridge. The journey time is about 90 minutes. Visit the Airlinks website or phone 01223 423900 for information.

By car

Directions from M11 driving northwards (only):

  • Exit M11 at junction 13 (available driving northwards only)
  • Follow the A1303 (Madingley Road) eastwards into Cambridge
  • Turn right into Grange Road
  • Turn 2nd left into Sidgwick Avenue
  • Turn left into the University of Cambridge Sidgwick Site, where the Faculty of Divinity is located. (The Sidgwick site is situated between Sidgwick Avenue, West Road and Grange Road.)

Directions from M11 driving northwards or southwards:

  • Exit M11 at junction 12
  • Follow A603 (Barton Road) eastwards into Cambridge
  • You should pass Wolfson College on your left
  • Turn left into Grange Road (just past a pedestrian crossing)
  • Take the second right hand turn into Sidgwick Avenue
  • Turn left into the University of Cambridge Sidgwick Site, where the Faculty of History is located. (The Sidgwick site is situated between Sidgwick Avenue, West Road and Grange Road.)

Using satnav

The Faculty's postcode is CB3 9EF, but there is no number on West Road to search for, so enter the co-ordinates of Lat N 52.202193° Long E 00.108218° which will take you to the Faculty car park, fourth bay on the left. If you want to use an address, enter 7 West Road which will take you to within 30 yards of the Faculty.

Parking

Parking on the Sidgwick site is by necessity restricted to permit holders. It is often possible to find metered street parking in Queen's Road or West Road (4-hour periods are allowed). There are numerous car parks in the town centre, and five Park and Ride sites, the nearest one being on Madingley Road. Details of all these can be found on the city council website.
