Dr Simone Maghenzani
My work investigates Renaissance and Reformation history, with a particular focus on religion in the long early-modernity, and on Italy in transnational contexts. I am Dame Marilyn Strathern College Associate Professor in History, and a Fellow and Director of Studies at Girton College, where I have been employed since 2015. I am also an Associate Professor on the Academic Board of the Graduate School of the University of Bologna (PhD programme in History and Archeology).
I am an alumnus of the University of Turin, where I graduated in Early Modern History for my BA (2008), MA (2010), and PhD (2014). In 2014/15 I was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Robinson College (Cambridge).
I have been a Visiting Scholar at Sidney Sussex College, University of Cambridge (2012-2013), and Academic Visitor in the University of Oxford (St Cross College), Georges et Pierre Regard Visiting Fellow at the Institut d’Histoire de la Réformation in the University of Geneva, Visiting Scholar at the Huntington Library (California), the 2015 Charles Montgomery Grey Fellow at the Newberry Library (Chicago), and David Walker Memorial Fellow at Oxford's Bodleian Library (and a member of Lincoln College) in 2019/20.
Among several other awards, I have held scholarships and grants from the British Academy-Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei (Rome), the Institute of Historical Research in London, the Cambridge History Faculty, the University of Turin, and I received the Walter Maturi Prize in History in 2010.
I have supervised MPhil and PhD dissertations on early modern Italian history, and on religious history, and I am available for enquiries.

I teach Part I, Paper 16 (Early Modern European History, 1450-1715), and Paper 17 (Modern European History, 1715-1890).
