Dr Jacob Currie

Assistant Professor of Medieval and Renaissance Latin
Fellow in Classics

I studied at Toronto (BA) and Trinity College, Cambridge (MPhil and PhD). After leaving Cambridge, I worked at Oxford, at the Institut de recherche et d’histoire des textes (Paris), at the British School at Rome, and again at Oxford, as a JRF at Jesus College. I returned to Cambridge in 2022.

I work on medieval Latin language and literature. At present I am editing works by Gerald of Wales, a prolific Anglo-Latin author of the late twelfth century, for the series ‘Oxford Medieval Texts’. More broadly, I am interested in medieval Latin manuscripts, textual criticism, the evolution of the Latin language, and its pronunciation in the Middle Ages.
