PhD student wins legal history prize

Congratulations to PhD medievalist Jake Stattel who has won the Sutherland Prize awarded by the American Society for Legal History, for his essay “Legal culture in the Danelaw: a study of III Aethelred,” published in the journal Anglo/Saxon England, in October 2022.

The citation can be found on the ASLH website

This essay goes far beyond a close reading of one early law code; it has important implications for how we understand law’s ability both to reinforce power and to coopt diversity.
