This paper will explore the growth and integration of the world economy since the early modern period. It will provide students with the tools to understand economic and social change in a historical and global perspective. From the rise of the fiscal state and the development of commercial capitalism to modern globalisation, the paper will look at how transformations in trade, migration, and political and financial institutions shaped the global economy and affected different regions of the world.
