The Election

The following were elected to serve on the Faculty Board of History in class (f), for one year from November 2021:

Undergraduate representatives

  • Malachi Gee
  • Beatrice Coulter
  • Thomas Shanahan

Postgraduate representatives  

  • Savannah Pine (PhD)
  • Sam Carter (MPhil)

 

What do reps do?

They represent all History and History/Politics students by being members of the Faculty Board:

  • The main decision-making body of the Faculty
  • Determines the policy and direction of the Faculty, approves courses and appoints Faculty members to important positions and committees
  • Receives reports and recommendations from various Faculty and University committees
  • Two meetings per term
  • Reps have the equal voting rights as academics for all “unreserved” (non-confidential) matters

And of the Faculty Health and Safety Committee: meets termly, working to keep the Faculty a safe environment.

Undergraduate reps are also members of the Teaching, Learning and Quality Committee (TLQC):

  • The principal forum for staff-student consultation
  • Business includes reviewing proposals for new courses and changes to Tripos, student feedback, equal opportunities and library accessions
  • One meeting a term

The Graduate reps are members of the Graduate Teaching and Learning Committee (GTLC):

  • Academics report important changes and new projects effecting Graduates
  • Student Representatives give direct feedback to academics making key decisions
  • One meeting a term

Reps will also be invited to represent the views of the student community in other ways, e.g. working parties focussing on particular issues.
