Scott Connors

PhD Candidate in World History

I am a PhD candidate at Gonville and Caius College working under the supervision of Professor Sujit Sivasundaram. I completed my BA Honours in History at the University of Ottawa, Canada in 2016 and subsequently completed my MA in Imperial History at the University of Kent in 2017. My current doctoral work is jointly funded by Cambridge Trust and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).

I am a co-convenor of the World History Graduate-Led Training Group, which invites graduate students from Cambridge and elsewhere to present and develop their research-in-progress in a constructive graduate seminar environment. I am also a co-convenor of Interventions: The Intellectual History Podcast, which invites both eminent and early career historians to share their research and discuss forthcoming publications.

My doctoral research is concerned with the history of mid-nineteenth century political culture in South India. Through an analysis of mass petitioning, pamphlets, and public protest, my thesis argues that the East India Company's political decline was in part the result of its inability to deliver the reforms demanded by an emergent South Indian public.
