Congratulations to Andrew Bailey, the new Governor of the Bank of England, who was a Queens' College History undergraduate and and went on to a PhD in economic history.

His thesis title was 'The impact of the Napoleonic wars on the development of the cotton industry in Lancashire: a study of the structure and behaviour of firms during the industrial revolution' (approved Feb 1985). His undergraduate dissertation (from which the PhD topic developed) was supervised by Neil Mckendrick, his PhD by Nick von Tunzelmann in Economics.
