Leave to Continue to the PHD

The MPhil programme provides excellent preparation for doctoral study, and we hope that some of you might be interested in applying to do a PhD here at the Faculty. There is no automatic continuation from the MPhil to the PhD, although fewer documents are required for the application process. We can this applying for ‘leave to continue’ to the PhD.

If you are interested in doctoral study we recommend that you discuss this with your Supervisor who will be able to support you through your application.

The funding deadlines for the PhD (here at Cambridge but also other Universities) close very early in the year, with deadlines for International students falling as early as November so we would encourage you to think early about your intentions for doctoral study.

MPhil students will usually be expected to achieve an overall grade of 70, with a grade of 70 from both examiners in the dissertation, in order to progress to the PhD.
