The Title

The Title

The Faculty have agreed styles for Dissertation titles, which generally required that titles should:

  • be brief but suitably descriptive,
  • include dates or some other chronological indication where possible,
  • avoid colons followed by subtitles,
  • avoid abbreviations,
  • avoid clichés and vague phrases (e.g. ‘continuity and change’).

The Dissertation title is usually agreed in discussion with your supervisor and once approved it cannot be changed without the approval of your Supervisor, the Director of the MPhil and the MPhil Sub-Committee if appropriate.
