Research Interests

My current research presents a fresh perspective on the intellectual and political context that lay behind the emergence of the New Right in Britain. It contends that a section of the Conservative Party, which included, but was not exclusive to, ‘Thatcherite’ MPs such as Keith Joseph and Angus Maude, adopted a novel conception of public opinion that in turn inspired a radically different approach to political leadership to that of their Conservative predecessors.
