Information for prospective graduate students (admission/continuation applicants)
Applicants who also wish to be considered in one of the Faculty's funding competitions should note that their applications must be submitted by earlier deadlines (see below).
Admission/continuation* application deadlines
If you wish to apply for the funding schemes described in the Faculty Funding guide, you must also simultaneously apply for admission/continuation.
You must apply for admission/continuation by:
1 October 2011 (EU and Overseas admission applicants)
1 December 2011 (UK admission applicants, EU/Overseas/UK continuation*applicants).
*Continuation applicants are those students who are currently undertaking a University of Cambridge MPhil degree course or have previously completed a University of Cambridge MPhil degree.
See http://www.hist.cam.ac.uk/prospective-graduates for MPhil and PhD prospectuses, and the 'Leave to continue' guide.
If you wish to apply for one of the Faculty’s six MPhil courses or for the PhD course, and do not wish to be considered for funding, you may apply after the deadlines above. The final deadlines for admission-only applications are:
14 February for the MPhil in Political Thought and Intellectual History
31 March for the PhD course and the MPhil in Historical Studies.
30 April for the MPhils in Economic and Social History, Medieval History, Modern European History and Early Modern History.
Incomplete and late applications
Admission/continuation applications (for example where references, proposals or writing samples are missing) cannot be processed. It is the applicant’s responsibility to make sure that all missing documents are supplied as quickly as possible. Delayed submission of materials may adversely affect your chances of being considered for funding.
Late applications for admission/continuation will be considered for admission/continuation but will not be considered for funding.
How long will it take?
It takes the Faculty between 6 and 12 weeks to process an application for admission/continuation. The Student Registry then have to complete the process and this can take approximately 4 to 6 weeks.
Application forms and supporting documents
Application forms and all supporting documents should be submitted via the Student Registry online application portal. The MPhil and PhD prospectus detail the supporting documents that are required.
