Tamara Fernando

PhD Candidate

I completed my BA in History and Literature at Harvard University and my MPhil in Early Modern History at Cambridge as a Harvard-Cambridge Fellow in 2017.

I'm currently writing a multi-sited history of pearling in the Indian Ocean 1880-1925 focused on the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Mannar [Sri Lanka/Ceylon] and the Mergui Archipelago [Burma/Myanmar]. I'm interested in the development of marine biology, marine environmental history, animal studies, and the intersection of the above with labour histories.
