Faculty Student Photo Competition 2017

2017 Photo Competition now open

We are delighted to announce the History Faculty Photo Competition 2017! Please read the details below, followed by the terms and conditions. If you have any questions, please email

The Photo Competition allows all students in the Faculty (undergraduate, MPhil, MSt, and PhD) to be in with the chance to win a prize for their photo entries.

Who can enter?

The competition is open to all current undergraduate or graduate students studying History at the University of Cambridge (including undergraduate, MPhil, MSt, and PhD).

Is there a theme?

This year there are two categories in the competition and you can apply to one or both. Category 1 is History at Cambridge University, photos that capture your own unique experience of studying History at Cambridge and show what inspires you as a History student. Category 2 is Fieldwork Photos, covering images taken while you were working on your degree away from Cambridge, for example on a research trip. We ask that you submit a short sentence with each photograph as a title or explanation. Most of all, we are very much looking forward to seeing your entries!

What are the prizes on offer? (These prizes are available in both Category 1 and Category 2)

1st prize: £75 Heffers voucher

Runner-up prize: £25 Heffers voucher

Heffers Cambridge is situated on Trinity Street and sells a range of items including books, CDs, DVDs, printed music, electric equipment, notebooks, puzzles and games, and a large selection of gift items; we’re sure you’ll be able to find something special to treat yourself.

How will the winner be chosen?

The Faculty will shortlist a small number of entries and put them on the Faculty Facebook page. The winner will be chosen by the number of ‘likes’ gained, so you can share the page with friends, family, and colleagues to publicise your photo. The winners will be notified by email.

How can I enter?

Please send up to two photos and the consent form to, with your sentence(s) for each photo. The photo needs to be a full resolution .jpeg (so please don’t crop or compress the image). It can be in colour or black and white. Each photo needs to be no more than 20MB. Ideally, your photo will be landscape or square.

**Please send from your email address and not a personal email**

The closing date for submissions is Wednesday 31st May 2017. We are accepting entries now!

Please see the Terms and Conditions here.
