Research Interests
The political, cultural, intellectual, religious and social history of Europe in the early middle ages, with particular interests in the Frankish kingdoms in the eighth and ninth centuries as well as palaeography and manuscript studies.
Teaching
Continental Europe, fifth to tenth centuries, especially the Carolingian period. The Vikings in Europe, c.800 - c.1000. British History, fifth to tenth centuries.
Areas of Research Supervision
All parts of Continental western Europe and Anglo-Saxon England, fifth to tenth centuries on political, religious, cultural, social, intellectual and economic themes.
